Are your Classic Aluminum Pressed Number Plates Road Legal? 

Pressed Number Plates are legal in the UK, but not without restrictions. If your vehicle is registered after March 21st 2001, your plates must utilise the materials listed within British Standard BS AU 145e (BSAU 145e). If your vehicle is pre 2021, the rolling tax 40 year exemption rule set out that any vehicle registered on or before 1972 qualified as a vintage vehicle. To summarize, any vehicle registered before 1980 is permitted to display pressed number plates. Please be aware that these plates are only for off-road/show use if your vehicle does not meet the requirements above.

What are Show Plates? 

You might have seen the term show plates floating around the motor industry and found yourself wondering what these are. The term show plates comes from Number Plates that are manufactured to be used at car shows, for a display or even for promotional reasons. Show Plates are not manufactured to British Standard 145e (BSAU 145e). Due to this, it is possible to widely customise these plates in any manner, regardless of the spacing, the sizing and text format on the plates. Show plates are also referred to as off-road plates, this means they cannot be used on any public roads, only private roads.
